Falls Prevention Programme
Catching it early - cushioning the effectsFalls are not exclusive to high level sports people.
Where there is concern in the family, a simple assessment can confirm and identify family members who are at risk of tripping / falling in their home or out and about in town and country. There may already be a diagnosis that explains the cause. The effects of the diagnosis, disease, injury, stroke, Parkinsonism etc. may affect each person's gait differently.
They can benefit from an assessment, which will identify likely causes of unsteadiness, tripping episodes, etc.. A programme of relevant advice and information, physical therapy, insoles and simple minor modifications to their way of living in the home and out and about may help to reduce the number and consequences of falls. Home exercise programmes may be suggested.
Sometimes, an assessment may bring to light an issue that needs onward referral.
